Prayagraj -- In a significant move ahead of the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has declared the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj as a new district. This decision aims to streamline the management and administration of the grand religious event, scheduled for January 2025.

The Maha Kumbh Mela district has been newly formed. The decision, announced on Sunday, had been previously indicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the Magh Mela 2024.

The move is expected to ensure smoother administrative work and better management of the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh on December 13 to review the preparations for the event and inaugurate key development projects.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, will take place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj. The Maha Kumbh is expected to be a landmark in promoting Indian culture. The Mela Adhikari, Kumbh Mela, Prayagraj, will be vested with extensive powers, including those of an Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate, and Additional District Magistrate, within the Maha Kumbh Mela district.
