New Delhi- Anju, a 45-year-old woman who crossed borders to be with her partner Nassarullah in Pakistan, has now returned to India. She arrived through the Attari-Wagha border and was brought to New Delhi for interrogation.

A resident of Bhiwadi in Alwar, Rajasthan, Anju is married and has a 15-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter. In 2019, she met Nasrullah on Facebook and the two fell in love. In June this year, she left for Pakistan to meet Nasrullah, reportedly without informing her family.

If the media reports are to be believed, Anju has confirmed her marriage to Nasrullah in an interrogation with the officials of the Intelligence Bureau. Although she was not able to show the documents, she said that she got married to the Pakistani citizen in July when she arrived in Pakistan. Regarding her visit to India, she said that she wanted to meet her children.

Anju is married to Bhiwadi-based Arvind Kumar, and after news of her marriage in Pakistan emerged, he had filed a case under sections 366 (kidnapping woman to compel her to marry), 494 (marrying another person without divorcing the previous partner), 500 (defamation), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Anju’s father had also expressed disapproval of her decision to go to Pakistan and landing her children in a difficult situation.

Nasrullah, her putative Pakistani husband, had told a news agency of Pakistan in October that Anju, aka Fatima, had applied to the interior ministry in Pakistan for the trip to Rajasthan. Additionally, in October, some reports said that Anju was planning to visit home to meet her two children. Nasrullah, her purported husband, was also quoted in the media saying that Anju was smitten by the absence of her children and that it is affecting her mentally. On Wednesday, it was reported in the media that Anju had returned to India through the Wagah border and was taken to a Border Security Force camp where she was interrogated. She was taken to New Delhi for further interrogation.
