Indian Grandmaster Vidit Gujarathi clinched a silver medal on the top board as his team, Novy Bor, emerged victorious in the European Chess Club Cup 2024. The tournament concluded on Sunday.

Team Novy Bor, composed of an international cast of players including Indian Pentala Harikrishna, German Vincent Keymer, Czech Republic's David Navara and Thai Dai Van Nguyen, Spain's David Anton Guijarro, Swedish Nils Grandelius, and Polish Mateusz Bartel, dominated the competition.

This victory follows India's impressive showing at the FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest in September, where the nation secured gold medals in both the men's and women's events.

In the final round of the European Chess Club Cup, India's men's team, featuring D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, and Pentala Harikrishna, defeated Slovenia 3.5-0.5 to secure the gold medal. Victories from D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi early in the final round established a 2-0 lead for India, with Praggnanandhaa later adding to the team's score.
