Rajasthan: 4 Doctors Suspended for Declaring Man Dead Prematurely

Rohitash, a deaf and dumb resident of an orphanage, was pronounced dead on Thursday. He was found alive while lying on the pyre and rushed back to hospital. However, he died on Friday during treatment.

Jaipur-In a shocking incident, a man declared dead by doctors was found alive while lying on the pyre for his final rites in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district. The four doctors involved in the case, including the principal medical officer, have been suspended.

The man, identified as 25-year-old Rohitash, was a deaf and dumb resident of an orphanage center. He was admitted to BDK Hospital in Jhunjhunu after experiencing health complications and was pronounced dead on Thursday around 2 pm.

According to officials, Rohitash's body was placed in the deep freezer of the mortuary and later transported to the crematorium. As his body was laid on the pyre, he began breathing and moving, prompting panic among the onlookers. An ambulance was immediately called, and Rohitash was rushed to the district hospital where he was admitted in the ICU. However, the patient, died on Friday during treatment in hospital.

District Collector Ramavtar Meena took swift action, suspending Principal Medical Officer Dr. Sandeep Pachar and three other doctors, Dr. Yogesh Jakhar, Dr. Navneet Meel, and Dr. Sandeep Pachar. The suspended doctors have been reassigned to different locations: Dr. Sandeep Pachar to Jaisalmer CMHO, Dr. Yogesh Jakhar to CMHO Barmer, and Dr. Navneet Meel to CMHO Jalore.

An investigation committee has been formed to investigate the incident, and a report has been requested from the principal medical officer. The Secretary of the Medical Department has also been informed about the situation.

The District Collector, along with other officials, including Tehsildar Mahendra Mund and Deputy Director of Social Justice Department Pawan Poonia, visited the hospital and held a meeting with doctors to investigate the matter.

The District Collector on Thursday night suspended three doctors who declared the man dead and sent him to the mortuary and then to the cremation ground.

According to information, Rohitash who lived in the shelter home of Maa Seva Sansthan in Bagad of Jhunjhunu district, fell ill on Thursday afternoon. Rohitash was an orphan and had been living at the shelter home for quite some time before the whole incident took place.

Meanwhile, following the drama, the District Collector suspended four officials on negligence charges. Also a committee was formed for an enquiry into the embarrassing incident. Now a probe is on to determine if the doctors performed the postmortem or not. Had the autopsy been performed, he would not have come alive. However, strangely, his postmortem report is already there in medical records. So the next line of investigation in on, sources said.
