SC/ST MPs Meet PM Modi, Seek Welfare Assurances

Prime Minister reiterates commitment to the welfare and empowerment of SC/ST communities.

New Delhi- After meeting with SC/ST MPs from the Parliament House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured them that the government will take care of their welfare. This was stated by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju.

According to a report, on Friday, the Prime Minister met with the SC/ST MPs of the BJP. During this meeting, he assured them that he will look into the issue of SC/ST reservations. Earlier, the Supreme Court had given the decision in the creamy layer case which states that states can sub-classify SCs and STs. This decision was taken in a 6:1 majority judgment.

After the Supreme Court's decision, the BJP MP had demanded that the government should not implement the decision of the Supreme Court. After the meeting with the Prime Minister, it was reported that the Prime Minister assured the MPs that he will look into the matter.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijju said, "BJP's SC/ST MPs met Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the reservation issue. The PM reiterated his commitment and resolve for the welfare and empowerment of the SC/ST communities."

It is to be noted that the BJP MP had assured the Prime Minister that the SC's decision on identifying the creamy layer from SCs/STs and excluding them from reservation benefits should not be implemented.
