Kota- Sixteen students from a government school near the Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (CFCL) plant in Rajasthan's Gadepan area were affected by an ammonia gas leak on Saturday.
The incident occurred during morning prayers when students began experiencing breathing difficulties, with some fainting and vomiting after a strong gas odor spread across the school grounds. District officials, including Collector Dr. Ravindra Goswami and Rural SP Sujit Shankar, quickly responded to the scene, and an NDRF team was deployed for rescue operations.
Of the affected students, five were discharged after receiving first aid, while five others remained under observation at the CFCL company hospital. Six students required further treatment and were transferred to JK Lone Hospital in Kota. The school administration has assigned three teachers to monitor the affected children's condition over the next three days, with two additional teachers stationed at JK Lone Hospital to support the hospitalized students. Health check-ups were also conducted for approximately 200 other students present at the school.
The incident has drawn attention from high-ranking officials, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who directed the administration to ensure proper medical care for the affected students. Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar and Education Minister Madan Dilawar have ordered an investigation into the matter. Minister Dilawar emphasized the education department's commitment to supporting the affected families while expressing relief that all children were safe. The government has promised accountability and strict action against any parties found negligent in the incident.
