Hyderabad: Female IPS Trainee Alleges Sexual Harassment, Assault by Male Colleague at National Police Academy

Hyderabad- A woman IPS probationer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad has filed a police complaint accusing her batchmate of serious sexual harassment, physical assault, criminal intimidation, and privacy violations.

The complainant, a 30-year-old married officer from Karnataka alleged that the accused, M. Uday Krishna Reddy, began harassing her from June 23. According to the FIR registered at Attapur Police Station, Reddy allegedly sent obscene WhatsApp messages, used vulgar language in front of other trainees, and spread false rumours about her having an affair with another officer, pressuring her to accept the claims.

The allegations escalated in early July. The woman claimed that on July 8, Reddy forcibly took her phone to his room, demanded the password, and accessed her private chats. She further alleged that he secretly recorded intimate videos without her consent and sent one to her husband as part of a blackmail attempt.

Attapur Police have registered an FIR against Reddy under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions for sexual harassment, voyeurism, stalking, insulting the modesty of a woman, and criminal intimidation. Sections of the Information Technology Act, particularly those dealing with privacy violations and transmission of obscene material, have also been invoked.

An internal inquiry committee at the SVPNPA reportedly examined evidence, including CCTV footage, and found merit in the complaint, leading to Reddy’s temporary suspension from the academy.

Accused Denies Charges, Hospitalised

Uday Krishna Reddy, a former Andhra Pradesh constable who cleared the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 with All India Rank 350 after overcoming personal hardships, has strongly denied all allegations. In a social media post before the incident, he described the claims as “baseless and untrue,” expressed faith in the legal process, and urged the media to verify facts.

On July 20, following the registration of the case, Reddy was hospitalized after consuming a substance. Reports indicate he left a note claiming a consensual relationship with the complainant since June 2025. Police have ruled out poison and suspect alcohol or sanitizer; his condition was described as critical in some initial reports, though he is under treatment. Authorities are examining the note’s authenticity along with digital evidence and witness statements.
