Union Home Ministry orders inquiry in the horrific death of a girl in Delhi

New Delhi— Union Home Minister Amit Shah ordered an inquiry into the horrific Delhi incident where a girl was dragged for 13 kilometers in northwest Delhi.

Although various conflicting versions have emerged regarding the incident but the most putative likelihood is that the scooty driven by the girl was hit by the car and she slipped under the car and got entangled by the axle.

The five people who have been arrested are Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishna (27), Mithun (26) and Manoj Mittal. Mittal is said to be a BJP leader. The accused are believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, however, the police refused to confirm this as their medical report was not disclosed at the time of filing the report.

The accident took place at Sultanpuri and the victim was dragged till kanjhawala.

The victim Anjali Singh was working with an event management company as support staff.

Various political parties condemned the incident. Attacking the Delhi Police for its negligence Swati Maliwal, Chief of the Delhi Commission of Women said “The police is trying to cover up the incident and demanded that action should be taken against the responsible police officers.”

Rekha, the mother of the victim has alleged that she was raped and that is why she was found naked.

Asha Devi, mother of Nirbhaya also alleged that it is a case of gang rape and that attempts have been made to destroy the evidence.

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad also condemned the incident and tweeted "The family fears that it is a murder after sexual assault. The accused is a BJP leader”.

The CCTV footage which surfaced late in the night show a body being trapped under the moving car.

The accused have been slapped with Sections 279(rash driving), 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 304A(causing death by negligence) of the IPC along with 120B (Conspiracy). The post-mortem report of the girl is also awaited.
