The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC) has taken serious cognisance of complaints alleging human rights violations in connection with food poisoning incidents reported in Madhapur of Rangareddy district and in parts of Hyderabad district.
Acting on a petition filed by senior advocate and National President of the National BC Dal, Mr. Dundra Kumara Swamy, the Commission has ordered a detailed inquiry into the matter and sought comprehensive reports from the concerned authorities.
In its directions, the Commission has instructed the District Education Officer, Hyderabad, and the District Education Officer, Rangareddy, to submit separate and detailed reports on the incidents. The reports are to be filed in triplicate on or before February 19, 2026.
The Commission stated that the case has been registered as H.R. Case No. 8468/2025 and that the next hearing will be held on February 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. Notices issued by the Commission caution that failure to submit the reports within the stipulated timeframe may invite legal action against the responsible officials.
The petition highlighted lapses in oversight and alleged negligence on the part of authorities, leading to incidents of food poisoning, raising serious concerns about the safety, health, and fundamental rights of students.
Educationists and social activists have welcomed the intervention of the Human Rights Commission, stating that the move underscores the urgent need for accountability, transparency, and stricter monitoring mechanisms within the education system. They expressed hope that the Commission’s action would act as a deterrent against negligence and strengthen safeguards to protect students’ rights and well-being.
The Commission’s decision is being viewed as a significant step towards reinforcing institutional responsibility in the education sector and ensuring that violations affecting vulnerable sections do not go unchecked.
