Jind – In a case that has ignited fierce debates on gender bias, maternal health, and family planning, a 37-year-old woman from Bhuna village in Haryana's Jind district gave birth to her 11th child- a son,on Sunday after 19 years of marriage and 10 previous daughters.

The delivery, performed at Ojas Hospital and Maternity Home in Uchana town, was described by doctors as extremely high-risk due to the mother's low hemoglobin levels and the newborn's critically low blood volume, initially just a few grams requiring both to be placed on medical support. Fortunately, both the mother, identified as Sunita, and the infant are now stable.

The doctor said it was a high risk case due to the mother's low hemoglobin level, however it was a normal delivery.

The couple Sanjay and , married since 2007, expressed joy over the boy's arrival, with the father reportedly planning a small celebration. Father Sanjay Kumar said, "We wanted a son, and some of our elder daughters also wished for a brother. This is my eleventh child, and I already have 10 daughters." He further added, "With my limited income, I am doing my best to provide a good education for my daughters. Whatever has happened is God's will, and I am happy with it."

The ten sisters named their newborn brother Dilkhush (happy heart), expressing the joy and happiness his birth has brought to the family after a long wait of 19 years.

However, a viral video circulating on social media has amplified the story's troubling undertones: the father struggled to recall the names of his 10 daughters during an interview, mistakenly referring to two as "Laxmi" and fumbling through the list, highlighting what many view as deep-seated neglect toward the girls. The father has denied accusations of patriarchy, insisting he treats all children equally, but the incident has fueled widespread condemnation.

Doctors emphasize the dangers of repeated pregnancies, particularly in a region like Haryana where son preference remains entrenched despite government efforts to improve the child sex ratio, which stands at approximately 918 girls per 1,000 boys better than its historical lows but still skewed. Experts warn that such high-parity births (11 pregnancies) increase risks of maternal hemorrhage, anemia, and long-term health complications for women, underscoring the urgent need for accessible contraception and education. This case echoes broader patterns in rural India, where cultural pressures for a male heir often override health advisories.

YouTuber Bhavesh Gujrati condemned the mindset in a x post where he wrote, "The rich kill daughters before birth using technology; the poor just don’t have that option. Even in 2026, a boy is still seen as “completion.” This isn’t tradition. It’s moral bankruptcy. When daughters are treated as mistakes and sons as achievements, the problem isn’t poverty or tradition; it’s a rotten mindset breeding in plain sight..." Another user wrote: "A society that celebrates a son after ten daughters doesn’t need wealth—it needs a change of conscience."
