New Delhi: Two separate incidents from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have triggered widespread outrage on social media after men were accused of exposing themselves to women. While the cases occurred under different circumstances, both have reignited concerns over women's safety and inappropriate sexual behaviour in public and private spaces.
In Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, police detained a man after a video allegedly showed him behaving inappropriately with two young women inside a stationary bus at the Deori Kalan bus stand.
The accused has been identified as Nitish Gond. According to police, the video went viral on social media, prompting them to take preventive action and detain him for questioning.
However, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far because neither the women seen in the video nor any other person has filed a formal complaint. Officials said further legal action will depend on the receipt of a complaint or the emergence of additional evidence.
In a separate incident in Bengaluru, a woman alleged that a Flipkart delivery agent forcibly entered her apartment after she repeatedly refused his request to use her washroom.
According to the complainant, she had declined because she does not allow strangers inside her home and suggested that he seek help from neighbouring residents instead. She alleged that the delivery agent entered the flat without permission and, after using the washroom, exposed himself to her.
Fearing for her safety, the woman said she kept her phone camera recording and left the main door open in case she needed to escape or seek assistance.
Based on her complaint, Marathahalli Police arrested the accused, identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath, and registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing.
Responding to the incident, Flipkart said it was deeply disturbed by the allegations and had immediately terminated the engagement of the delivery partner involved.
The company stated that customer safety is non-negotiable and that it is fully cooperating with the investigating authorities. It also said all delivery partners undergo background verification and mandatory training before onboarding, while adding that even a single incident of this nature is unacceptable.
The two incidents have drawn strong reactions online, with many users expressing concern over what they described as a disturbing pattern of sexual misconduct against women.
Several users argued that deliberately exposing one's private parts is not merely indecent behaviour but an act that can intimidate, humiliate, and psychologically distress women. Others called for stricter enforcement of the law, faster investigations, and stronger preventive measures to deter such offences.
While the circumstances and legal status of the two cases differ, an arrest has been made in the Bengaluru case, whereas the Sagar case awaits a formal complaint, both incidents have intensified public debate over women's safety and accountability for acts of sexual misconduct.
