Tribal Home Stays-Swadesh Darshan Scheme Launched to Boost Tourism

The scheme will promote 1000 homestays in tribal villages with tourism potential to boost local tourism and livelihood.

New Delhi- The government has approved the construction of 1000 homes in tribal villages under the Pradhan Mantri Jancatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJAN) scheme. The decision was taken by the Union Cabinet during its meeting on September 18, 2024. The total amount under the scheme is Rs 79,156 crore, including the central and state shares.

The PMJAN scheme aims to improve the socio-economic condition of tribal communities living in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts. The benefit of this scheme will be spread over 549 districts and 2,740 blocks in 30 states and union territories.

Under the scheme, the Ministry of Tourism will promote the Tribal Home Stays-Swadesh Darshan scheme. Under this, the construction of 5-10 homes will be promoted in one village in villages with tourist potential. For this, the tribal household and the village will be given funding of Rs 5 lakh for the construction of two new rooms and up to Rs 3 lakh for the renovation of the existing rooms, and an additional Rs 5 lakh will be used for the development of the village.

The government aims to provide an alternate livelihood to the tribal community through this scheme. The Tribal Home Stays-Swadesh Darshan scheme will promote 1000 homestays in tribal villages with tourism potential to boost local tourism and livelihood.

The scheme will be implemented by 17-line ministries. Each ministry will be responsible for the implementation of the relevant scheme in a time-bound manner. The Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes (DAPST) will be implemented by 17-line ministries. This plan will be implemented by using the funds allocated under the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes in the next five years.
