New Delhi- The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance on the heartbreaking incident that happened with a woman in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The woman was held hostage for months.
According to the information received, the victim was held hostage for six months because she refused to work in pornography and become a bar dancer. During this time she was beaten with an iron rod, starved and subjected to severe physical violence. Her arms, legs and teeth were broken, causing serious injuries to her.
The NCW has strongly condemned this inhuman act. The chairperson of the commission has written a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. She has directed to take strict action under the Indian Justice Code. Also, the victim has been ordered to be given free medical facility and psychological counseling so that she can recover from this painful experience.
The commission has taken this matter very seriously and has termed it unacceptable to the society.
The NCW said that such barbarism cannot be tolerated. Quick and effective steps should be taken to provide justice to the victim and punish the culprits. The commission has also asked to ensure that the victim gets all possible assistance, including medical, mental and legal help.
The West Bengal Police has been asked to investigate the matter and take strict action against the culprits and also emphasized on taking concrete steps to prevent such incidents in future.
Along with this, the commission has appealed to the general public to raise their voice against such incidents and show solidarity with the victims.
