North Delta, Canada - Chetna Association of Canada has announced its plans to host the Punjabi play "Lacchu Kabadia" on Sunday, July 23, at North Delta Secondary School. The play, written, directed, and acted by esteemed artist Dr. Sahib Singh from Punjab, aims to provoke discussion and reassess the impact of the age-old caste system on the Indian Subcontinent and its global implications.

With free admission and complimentary passes available, Chetna Association of Canada invites the public to experience this educational production. Dr. Sahib Singh, known for his contributions to Punjabi theater, believes that "Lacchu Kabadia" resonates with audiences of all backgrounds, emphasizing that anyone can relate to its subject matter regardless of their position within the caste hierarchy.

The play serves as a powerful tool to inspire individuals adversely affected by the caste system, encouraging them to rise above its constraints and live a life of dignity. Dr. Singh's extensive experience in writing, directing, and performing in numerous plays and short films, including "Naam Likhari Nanaka," "Samey di Daang," and "Gurpurab," further adds to the anticipation surrounding "Lacchu Kabadia."

Dr. Sahib Singh's accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. In 2020, he was honored with the prestigious Shiromani Punjabi Natak Award, the highest recognition in the category, presented by the Punjabi Languages Department in Punjab, India.

The issue of caste has recently gained public attention in North America. In February 2023, the City of Seattle passed an ordinance to ban caste-based oppression in public services, setting a significant precedent. The State of California's Senate also followed suit, passing a similar motion to address caste-related discrimination. In Canada, the Toronto District School Board, City of Burnaby, and City of Brampton have initiated discussions and introduced motions on this topic. Furthermore, discussions with the British Columbia government are underway to address caste-related discrimination within the province.

Chetna Association of Canada, dedicated to fostering social integration, aims to present this play as a means of cultural education and raising awareness. The association invites individuals to attend "Lacchu Kabadia" and engage in meaningful dialogue about the impact of the caste system.
