Chandigarh — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced Friday that the state government will introduce a bill in the upcoming budget session to control illegal immigration.

The announcement came after a state-level review meeting in Panchkula, where Saini assessed crime and law and order with senior police officers.

The proposed legislation aims to curb illegal immigration in the state.

In addition to the bill, the government will unveil a new policy to reward police personnel for exceptional service and take strict action against lapses in crime prevention. The policy seeks to encourage and recognize good work while ensuring accountability for any negligence in crime prevention.

During the meeting, the chief minister reviewed crime trends in the state, noting a significant decrease in crime rates overall. He highlighted the reduction in crimes against women in 2024 compared with the previous year and praised the state’s progress in addressing cybercrime.

Saini emphasized that police have been given a free hand to deal with crime and criminals. He stressed that officers demonstrating excellence would be recognized, while those showing negligence would face disciplinary action.

The chief minister also set targets for the de-addiction campaign, aiming to make 70% of Haryana’s villages drug-free by the end of 2025. He further instructed strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.

To strengthen law and order in Nuh district, a new battalion of Haryana Police will be established. The chief minister has directed the concerned officers to identify land for this purpose.

Further measures to improve safety and security include enhancing the Haryana 112 service’s efficiency and reducing response times.

The chief minister reiterated the government’s commitment to modernizing the police force, stating that Rs. 300 crore worth of schemes outlined in their election manifesto are being implemented.
