India's Agriculture Gets a Boost with New National Code

The Mooknayak English

New Delhi- The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has organised a workshop for the development of the National Agriculture Code (NAC). The code is expected to provide better practices for crop selection, storage, and transportation of agricultural products.

The NAC will incorporate emerging agricultural technologies and practices with a focus on three main areas: crop selection, land preparation, and post-harvest activities. It will also provide guidance to the farmers and enable them to adopt higher standards of production. The code will also help in the development of new and innovative methods of crop production that can help to increase productivity and efficiency while also reducing the environmental impact of agriculture.

The workshop was attended by government officials, industry experts, and academic researchers from across the country. The participants were divided into seven groups and assigned to specific aspects of agriculture including crop selection, land preparation, sowing/transplanting, irrigation/drainage, soil health management, and plant health management. The workshop concluded with the identification of nodal organizations and experts to contribute to the NAC's development.

The NAC is one of the many initiatives by the government to improve the quality of agriculture in India. It is expected that the code will help in creating a more conducive environment for farmers and enable them to adopt higher standards of production. This will not only improve the livelihoods of the farmers but also contribute to the growth of the country's agricultural sector.
