Rajasthan: Toll staffers assault wife after husband opposes delay passage on NH-52

Jaipur— In a shocking incident that took place at Tantiyawas toll plaza on the NH52 under Chomu police station, toll staffers assaulted a couple, allegedly after a heated conversation over delay in clearance at the toll counter.

More than a dozen staffers allegedly attacked the man who is a journalist, misbehaved with his wife seated inside the car when she tried to come out to rescue her husband from them. The woman has sustained severe injury on one of her fingers. Instead of taking stringent action, the Chomu police has booked only one of the staff under minor charge of disrupting peace, the complainant said.

Journalist Kanhaiyalal Kumawat told The Mooknayak that "he was driving his car along with his wife and two kids towards Jaipur. At the Tantiyawas toll plaza, they had to wait for long due to a huge jam like situation. When Kumawat asked the toll staffers to clear the route fastly so as to avoid delay, the men were offensive further leading to verbal spat followed by assault".

Fellow travellers came to rescue the couple and police was informed. Chomu SHO Vikrant Sharma said main accused Anoop Sharma resident of Dholpur has been arrested under sections 141,341,354 and 323 of the IPC. Police has also sought footage from the CCTV installed at the toll plaza.

Journalist association has come forward against the toll staff hooligans and given a memorandum seeking stringent action against the entire toll staff for gross misconduct and inappropriate behaviour.

Jitendra Singh Rajawat of the Indian Federation of Working Journalist informed The MookNayak that a delegation of journalist have met the Jaipur Superintendent of Police Rajendra Singh Nirwan to discuss the gravity of offence.

The Chomu lawyers association has also expressed solidarity with the journalist on the matter and announced that no members from Chomu bar association would represent case on behalf of the accused toll staffers. Meanwhile the toll collection company is saif to have terminated the services of the main accused Anoop Sharma for the misconduct.
