Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah Actor Alleges Sexual Harassment by the Show Producer

Mumbai— On Thursday, an actor from "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" accused producer Asit Kumarr Modi and two others of sexual harassment. They disputed the accusation and said she was fired from the show for misbehaviour. In addition, Modi declared that he will sue the actor for attempting to discredit him and the program, as reported by NDTV.

The actor said that on April 8, she wrote a formal letter to the appropriate parties, including the National Commission for Women (NCW) and Mumbai Police, charging Mr. Modi, project director Sohail Ramani, and executive producer Jatin Bajaj with sexual harassment and insulting a woman's modesty.

At the Powai police station, they got the application on May 8, according to a senior police official.

The actor alleged that over the past few years, Mr. Modi had repeatedly "sexually harassed" her. He would make cruel remarks, but I disregarded them. He allegedly suggested things like, "Come to my room, let's have whisky," among other things, in March 2019 in Singapore, she claimed.

"I remained silent but told two of my co-workers about these incidents. They would frequently protect me. They are unable to do much because they are still working on the project, the actor told PTI.

She also said that she spoke with Ramani about her experience. I said, 'I don't want to work on the program,' to him. We will stop paying you for four months, he declared. They exert pressure on me mentally, she continued.

The producer told PTI, "On March 7, Holi, we were shooting. She behaved badly as a result of anything. We suffered a monetary loss. She misbehaved and abused the director and the production team, so they announced they would not work with her.”

"They made the decision to take her off the program. At the time of this incident, I was in the US. After we kicked her off the program, she started making accusations against us. We are conversing with our solicitors. The future line of action will be decided by them, Modi stated.

However, the actor said that on the show's sets on March 7, both Ramani and Bajaj mistreated her. Ramani and Bajaj refuted the accusations in a statement to the media, saying she frequently misbehaved with the entire cast of the show.

When asked why she didn't make her accusations public earlier, the star replied that she lacked the confidence to do so.

"As a woman, you assume they are powerful. How can you compete with them when this (show) is your main source of income? At the time, I was threatened with losing four months of income because I believed quitting the show would be the easiest way to handle the situation. I was unable to give up at the time, and I still cannot, she claimed.

The actors' directors for the program, Harshad Joshi, Rushi Dave, and Armaan Dhanesha, also claimed the actress lacked attention and discipline.

The 2008 premiere of "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" marked the beginning of one of Indian television's longest-running sitcoms. Additionally, it stars well-known performers Mandar Chandwadkar, Munmun Dutta, and Dilip Joshi.
