Kolkata – The parents of a young doctor who was raped and murdered inside Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024 expressed their desire for justice on Monday, stating they seek punishment for all individuals involved in their daughter's death.

Following a court hearing on the admissibility of death penalty petitions filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the West Bengal government against the sole convict, Sanjay Roy, the victim's father addressed the media. He emphasized their demand for a thorough investigation and the revelation of all those responsible for the crime.

While acknowledging the recent life sentence handed down to Roy by a special court, the victim’s parents, represented by counsel Shamim Ahmed, expressed dissatisfaction with the CBI's investigation progress. They allege that the investigation has yet to uncover the true masterminds behind the heinous act.

"We want the names of all those behind my daughter’s end to surface," the victim’s father stated, highlighting their desire for maximum punishment for all perpetrators. He added, "So we are not seeking capital punishment for Sanjay Roy now. The rest will be explained by our counsel.”

The division bench of Justice Debangshu Basak and Justice Shabbar Rashidi has reserved judgment on the admissibility of the CBI and West Bengal government's petitions seeking the death penalty for Roy. The court's decision will determine whether both petitions will be heard or if one will be dismissed.
