Rajasthan— Mothers are known to be over protective of their children specially when they are too young to take care of themselves. However, in a bizarre incident, a woman refuted her minor kids allegations of physical and sexual abuse against her paramour. Her behaviour is shocking for the authorities investigating the matter. The case has been registered under the provisions of the POCSO Act.

The incident came to light on Saturday night when the child line received a panic call from two kids who had escaped from their home and run into a neighbour's place in Sukher area of Udaipur city. Upon information, the Sukher police rescued and produced them before the Child Welfare Committee.

The children who are a girl and boy of 7 and 8 years respectively were in a state of trauma and told the CWC members that their mother's live-in partner abuse them frequently. They were too frightened and refused to be taken home.

The CWC came to know that the woman hailed from Ajmer but after separating from her husband, had shifted to Udaipur few years ago. She came in contact with a Punjabi man who did petty driving jobs, they started living together in a house at Sukher.

The woman is a dancer and worked for an event management company and had to remain away from home for days for work. The children were left to the care of her lover. "We counselled the kids and took them into confidence. Whatever they said seem true because they are too young to be manipulated. They asserted their statement very strongly and confidently. The sexual allegations were made by the boy who said that the man forced him for oral sex whenever their mother was not around" Dhruv Kumar Kaviya, Chairman of the CWC told The Mooknayak.

He further said that the girl too would be counselled second time to assure that she isn't under any fear or hiding any similar sexual abuse attempt by the man.

"What is shocking is their mother's response who is not just trying to save her lover but taking the serious allegations in a very casual manner. She even threatened to commit suicide, if a case was taken against the man" Kaviya said.

In conversation with The MookNayak, Shilpa Mehta, another member of the CWC said, usually a mother side with children and insist for punishment for such heinous crime but here the woman's reaction is abnormal. She is siding with her partner and this is indeed serious. Mehta said the bench would hold counselling sessions ahead with the mother and kids to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gaytri Tiwari, a psychologist and family relationship expert cited fear, anxiety and intra and inter-personal insecurity as the probable reasons behind the woman's behaviour. "A woman separated with her husband has to undergo lot of societal pressure, and financial and emotional insecurity. The woman could be vulnerable too, hence the police should find out whether she is a victim of violence by her lover. Her fear and security concerns for her kids could also be a reason for her refutal" Tiwari opined.
