Kolkata- Several protests were organised by students and youth organisations demanding justice for the victim of R.G. Kar. The Health Secretary, Narayan Swarup Nigam, is expected to join a meeting with the Joint Doctors Platform West Bengal in the evening. This was after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR against the former principal of the hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, for financial irregularities.
The protests took out in different parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, where students of the Students Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), and All India Lawyers Union (AILU) took to the streets to demand justice for the victim.
The CBI has obtained court approval for polygraph tests on seven people, including Dr. Ghosh. The former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital is currently being questioned in Kolkata. A polygraph test is also being conducted on six other people.
The state government has also decided to increase security at the state secretariat in Nabanna due to the proposed Nabanna Abhiyan on August 27. The Abhiyan is a protest against the rape and murder of a second-year post graduate trainee doctor at R.G. On August 24, 2024, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR in West Bengal against Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, for financial irregularities. Dr. Ghosh is currently being interrogated in Kolkata and is undergoing a polygraph test.
No conclusion was reached in a meeting held at R.G. Kar Medical College involving the junior doctors of the institute to discuss their return to service. The Health Secretary is expected to meet with the Joint Doctors Platform West Bengal in the evening. The state government is keeping a close watch on the situation and taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of the residents of West Bengal.
