Kolkata- Prominent Bengali actors and other film industry personalities participated in overnight protests in Kolkata, demanding justice for a trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital last month. Protests were organised by several legendary actors and other personalities demanding swift justice for the victim.

The rally began in College Square in Kolkata and ended at the early hours of the morning. The state-renowned actors and personalities who took part in the protest included Aparna Sen, Swastika Mukherjee, Chaiti Ghosal Sohini Sarkar among others.

As part of the protest, the actors and personalities held sit-ins at various locations in the city including Esplanade and Jawaharlal Nehru Road-SN Banerjee Road crossing. They demanded that a representative from the ruling Trinamool Congress meet them and address their demands for a swift investigation and arrest of those involved in the case.

Swastika Mukherjee said, “The administration might think that the movement will lose momentum with the upcoming festive season, but it will resume and grow larger after the Durga Puja.”

A junior doctors' forum also took part in the night protests along with the actors and personalities of the Bengali film industry. The forum demanded a fair, impartial investigation and the arrest of all those involved in the alleged crime.
