Telangana HRC issues notice to BC Welfare Society over student safety and living conditions

Hyderabad- The Telangana Human Rights Commission (THRC) has initiated proceedings on a complaint filed by National BC Dal President and advocate Dundra Kumaraswamy concerning the welfare, safety and living conditions of students studying in residential educational institutions run by the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (MJPTBCWREIS).

Registering the complaint as H.R. Case No. 2825/2026, the Commission has issued a notice to the Secretary of the Society, calling for a detailed report on the issues raised in the petition. The report has been sought on or before September 18, when the matter is scheduled to come up for further consideration before the Commission at 11 a.m.

According to the notice, the Commission has directed the concerned authority to furnish a comprehensive report addressing the allegations and relevant facts placed before it. It has also made it clear that the information must be submitted by the authority to whom the notice has been issued.

The Commission has further cautioned that, in the event of failure to submit the report within the stipulated time, it may proceed to take such action as deemed appropriate in accordance with law.

The complaint highlights issues relating to student safety, quality of food, health protection and infrastructure in BC welfare residential educational institutions. The Commission's decision to seek an official report indicates that the matter warrants examination within the framework of protection of students' human rights.

Legal observers note that the Commission's intervention underscores the importance of ensuring safe residential facilities and adequate welfare standards in educational institutions, particularly those catering to socially and economically disadvantaged students.
