Hyderabad- The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) today announced the details of the AIOBCSA National Convention & Mandal Diwas Celebrations – 2026, being organized as part of the 200th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, at a press conference held at the Press Club, Somajiguda, Hyderabad.

Addressing the media, the speakers stated that the National Convention, scheduled to be held on 7 August in Hyderabad, will bring together student leaders, intellectuals, public representatives, social activists, and representatives of civil society from across the country to deliberate on key issues concerning social justice and adopt a future course of action.

The convention will deliberate on and adopt resolutions on several important issues affecting OBCs, including the Caste Census, enhancement of OBC reservations in proportion to their population, reservation in promotions for OBCs, establishment of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Centres in universities, fellowship issues of OBC students, social justice in higher education, welfare of OBC students, and other pressing OBC-related concerns.

Dr. J. Purnachandra Rao, Retired IPS Officer and All India Coordinator of the All India Backward Studies, stated that strengthening the constitutional vision of social justice requires implementing reservations for OBCs in proportion to their population, along with reservation in promotions. He appealed to all organizations and individuals committed to social justice to make the convention a grand success.

Shri T. Chiranjeevulu, former MLC and Chairman of BCIF, emphasized the need for evidence-based policymaking through a comprehensive Caste Census. He stated that the National Convention would serve as an important platform for protecting the constitutional rights of OBCs and advancing social justice, and appealed to intellectuals, people’s organizations, and the general public to participate in large numbers.

Shri Venkat Maroju, representing the BC Employees Think Tank (USA) and the Boston Study Group, said that the global OBC diaspora continues to support the movement for social justice in India. He noted that the convention would send a strong message in favour of ensuring equal opportunities for OBCs in education, employment, and governance, and called upon youth, employees, and social organizations to make the convention a historic success.

Dr. G. Kiran Kumar, National President of AIOBCSA, said that the first-ever National OBC Students’ Convention in Hyderabad would witness participation from OBC student leaders, researchers, students, and social activists from various states across India. He stated that participants would deliberate on major issues confronting OBCs, including the Caste Census, proportionate reservations, reservation in promotions, equal opportunities in higher education, fellowships, employment, and other issues of social justice. He further announced that the convention would adopt and release the “Hyderabad Declaration,” outlining a roadmap for the future of the OBC movement. He appealed to OBC students, youth, social organizations, and advocates of social justice from across the country to participate in large numbers and make the convention a grand success.

The organizers stated that the convention, being held on the occasion of the 200th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, is a historic initiative and called upon organizations, activists, and student groups working for social justice across the country to actively participate.

Kiran Kumar (National President, AIOBCSA), Mahesh Gowd (National General Secretary, AIOBCSA), Gangadhar Lakshminarsaiah (President, AIOBCSA – University of Hyderabad Unit), Vasumati Yadav, Kondal, and Shiva Yadav.
