Karnataka Backward Classes Commission Submits Survey Report to Government, Warns of Legal Action Over Misinformation

Bengaluru- The Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes has officially submitted its report based on the Social and Educational Survey-2025 to the state government, while simultaneously warning the public against spreading false information related to the survey data.

In a press statement, the Commission confirmed that the report was handed over to the government on May 27. The survey, which aimed to collect comprehensive data on backward classes across the state, has been the subject of intense public scrutiny.

However, the Commission has underscored that it is bound by strict confidentiality directives issued by the Hon’ble High Court. In separate writ petitions — W.P. Nos. 28665/2025, 28668/2025, and 28675/2025 — the Court passed an order on September 25, 2025, explicitly directing the Commission to maintain strict confidentiality of individuals’ data collected during the survey. In compliance with this order, the Commission has assured that it has taken all necessary measures to safeguard personal information and generated data.

Furthermore, in line with the High Court’s directions on maintaining confidentiality, the Commission has requested the government to store the submitted report securely in safe custody, and action has been taken accordingly.

Despite these precautions, the Commission noted with concern that certain individuals have been creating and spreading false information regarding the survey data on media and social media platforms, thereby misleading the public. The Commission clarified that it has not disclosed any information contained in either the survey or the report submitted to the government. According to the Commission, the misinformation being circulated is based purely on surmises and speculation, which amounts to a disregard and violation of the Hon’ble Court’s order.

The Commission has publicly informed that sharing false and unauthorized information about the survey data or the report on any media or social media platform constitutes a violation of the court’s order. Consequently, the Commission warned that it will be compelled to initiate appropriate criminal proceedings against those found responsible for such actions.
