New Delhi- The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) has formally written to the Floor Leaders of all political parties in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, urging them to oppose the Women’s Reservation Bill in its current form for failing to include a sub-quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
In its communication, AIOBCSA expressed serious concern that while the Bill aims to enhance women’s representation in legislative bodies, it does not ensure equitable and inclusive representation for OBC women. The Association emphasized that the absence of an OBC sub-quota risks excluding a large and socially disadvantaged section of women from the benefits of this significant reform.
AIOBCSA highlighted that OBC women face multiple layers of social and economic marginalization. A reservation policy based solely on gender, without addressing caste-based inequalities, may unintentionally reinforce existing disparities rather than eliminate them.
The Association has called upon all political parties to take a principled stand by demanding the inclusion of a clear and constitutionally valid sub-quota for OBC women within the Women’s Reservation framework. It stressed that true social justice can only be achieved when representation reflects the diversity of Indian society.
AIOBCSA further stated that it has sent similar representations to members of both Houses of Parliament, urging them to ensure that the voices and rights of OBC women are not overlooked in the legislative process.
The Association expressed hope that political leaders will give due consideration to this issue and work towards a more inclusive and just policy framework.
