Amethi- Over the past five years, a remarkable transformation has taken place in Tikariya village of Gauriganj tehsil, located approximately 20 km away from the district headquarters of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Here, a group of determined women has reached new heights of self-reliance. The women of Amethi have become shining examples of empowerment and resilience. In a region where traditional gender roles often confine women to the confines of their homes, these women from Gauriganj tehsil have defied societal norms and taken charge of their destinies through hard work and determination.

By forming groups and engaging in slipper manufacturing, they have not only boosted their family's financial stability but also inspired countless others in their community.

Their dedication has not only earned them recognition in the market but has also provided them with a newfound sense of identity and purpose. Through their initiative, they have not only found a source of income but have also shattered barriers by proving that women can thrive economically while working from the comfort of their homes.

Every day, hundreds of slippers are meticulously crafted by these enterprising women and find their way to shelves in shops, exhibitions, and villages across the region.

This venture not only provides a steady source of income for the women involved but also offers them the unique opportunity to engage in meaningful employment without having to leave the comfort of their homes. This innovative approach to economic empowerment not only empowers women economically but also allows them to balance their familial responsibilities while contributing to their household income.

Instead of purchasing rubber straps for the slippers, these resourceful women repurpose old tubes to create durable bands, further reducing expenses. Once the slippers are crafted, they are meticulously painted in vibrant colors, dried, and then brought to market, where they find eager buyers.

This translates to earning lakhs of rupees each month, highlighting the substantial benefits derived from their business venture.

Kusum Devi, the leader of the group, expressed to The Mooknayak, "It is the perfect way for us to utilize our free time effectively. Previously, we would idle away our time after completing household chores, but when financial needs arose, we had no choice but to rely on others for assistance. Now, through this group, we have discovered a new path where we can not only provide for our families but also ensure proper care for our children while managing household duties effectively. This employment opportunity has truly transformed our lives."

Kusum further emphasizes, "Above all, it is crucial to empower women through employment opportunities. Previously, women in our village hesitated to step outside their homes. However, through this work, they can now stay within the comfort of their homes while fulfilling their family responsibilities and being economically active. This employment initiative has not only made a significant impact within Amethi district but has also resonated in various districts and cities across the state. Presently, more than two dozen women are actively involved in this endeavor as part of our group. Our goal is to expand this initiative further and double our profits, ensuring even greater economic empowerment for women in our community."
