Nagarkurnool- Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a phone conversation with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday morning to discuss the rescue efforts for eight people trapped in the SLBC tunnel collapse in Nagarkurnool district.
During their 20-minute discussion, CM Reddy detailed the government's immediate response to Saturday's accident, where part of the under-construction tunnel's roof gave way. He explained that Irrigation Minister Uttam Reddy was immediately dispatched to the site, along with NDRF and SDRF rescue teams.
The Chief Minister outlined measures taken to provide medical assistance to the injured and support for families of those trapped. Rahul Gandhi commended these efforts while urging the state government to exhaust all possibilities in rescuing the trapped workers.
The incident occurred at the 14th kilometer point of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel, where 50 workers were present during the collapse. While 42 workers managed to escape, eight remained trapped, including two engineers and two machine operators. The collapse affected a three-meter section of the tunnel roof.
Earlier, Gandhi had expressed his concern on social media platform X, acknowledging the ongoing rescue operations and the state government's coordination with disaster relief teams.
