New Delhi- The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the distribution of a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days of wages, amounting to ₹2028.57 crore, to over 11.72 lakh railway employees. This decision comes in recognition of the railway staff's exceptional performance during the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
The bonus will be distributed to various categories of railway employees, including Track Maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Pointsmen, Ministerial staff, and other Group C workers. The PLB serves as a motivational incentive for the workforce, driving them to contribute towards improving the Railways' overall efficiency.
As is the tradition, the PLB will be disbursed ahead of the Durga Puja and Dussehra holidays. This year, the maximum payout per employee is capped at ₹17,951. The initiative will benefit over 11.72 lakh non-gazetted railway employees across various operational roles.
In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Indian Railways witnessed remarkable performance milestones, including a record freight loading of 1588 million tonnes and the transportation of nearly 6.7 billion passengers. This success has been attributed to enhanced infrastructure, efficiency in operations, and the implementation of better technology, all bolstered by the government's substantial capital investment in the Railways.
