Former IPS Officer R.S. Praveen Kumar's Hunger Strike Leads to Cancellation of TSPSC Paper in Telangana

R.S. Praveen, the State President of the Bahujan Samaj Party and a former IPS officer, became the center of attention during a protest against the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPS). His fast unto death compelled the authorities to cancel the TSPSC paper in the state.

The opposition party has criticized the Chief Minister for the leaked TSPSC paper. They intensified their attacks on him after the leak came to light last week. In response, the Chief Minister established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter, which resulted in the arrest of nine individuals. However, this action did little to alleviate the opposition's concerns. The state BJP also took to the streets to demand the resignation of the Chief Minister's son and cabinet minister, K.T.R. Chandrashekhar Rao.

The hunger strike

However, it was R.S. Praveen of the B.S.P who spearheaded the protest calling for the overhaul of the TSPSC and a CBI investigation into the matter. He even resorted to a hunger strike at the BSP State Headquarters to emphasize his demands. However, the police arrested the former I.P.S. officer and took him to his residence, where he persisted with the strike.

KCR gives into the primary demand

The mounting pressure on Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao resulted in the cancellation of not only the TSPSC paper but also three other papers. As a result of this decision, R.S. Praveen Kumar ended his fast. However, he remains unwavering in his demands, which include a CBI inquiry into the case and a complete overhaul of the Telangana State Public Service Commission, the organization responsible for conducting administrative service examinations.

During the upcoming Bahujan Rajyadhikara Yatra, which he plans to resume in a day or two, R.S. Praveen Kumar is expected to raise the issue and press for his demands.
