Kolkata – Kolkata Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty for allegedly making provocative statements at a party meeting last month. The complaint was filed on Monday evening at Bowbazar Police station by an anonymous individual, citing concerns that the statements could incite violence and tension.

The incident occurred during an organizational BJP meeting in Kolkata on October 27, attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Chakraborty, while addressing the meeting, targeted Trinamool Congress legislator Humayun Kabir regarding the religious demographics of Murshidabad district. He allegedly stated, "One leader is claiming that in a particular district, there are 70 per cent Muslims against 30 per cent Hindus. He also said that the latter will be cut and thrown in Bhagirathi river." Chakraborty further added, "A day will come when I will busy you in your own soil,” seemingly threatening Kabir.

The Election Commission of India had previously censured Kabir for his comments, issuing a show-cause notice. Kabir claimed that his comments were deliberately taken in isolation to make them appear as a threat.

The city police have not yet revealed their intended course of action regarding the FIR against Chakraborty.
