Lucknow- Following a disturbing incident at Allahabad University where a student was stripped and beaten, decisive action has been taken. The accused Chief Proctor, Professor Rakesh Singh, has been removed from his position. In response to the gravity of the situation, the Vice Chancellor has convened a high-level inquiry committee. Heading this crucial investigation is Professor Shivamohan Prasad from the Department of Botany, with Assistant Registrar Sunil Kumar Yadav appointed as the committee's convener.

This committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the assault on the student. With a sense of urgency, the committee has been directed to conclude its investigation within one month. Meanwhile, to ensure the smooth functioning of the proctorial system, Professor K.N. Uttam, Head of the Physics Department, will take on the role of Acting Chief Proctor.

The protests initiated by students at Allahabad University since January 29th have spurred this action.

Abhishek Gupta, a resident of the Sir Sunderlal Hostel, had alleged that on January 29th he was beaten and sexually harassed in the proctor's office by Atul Singh, the Assistant Superintendent of the hostel in presence of Rakesh Singh, the Chief Proctor. Following an uproar on Social Media, Atul Singh was removed from his post.

Speaking to the Mooknayak, Abhishek, the victim expressed satisfaction with the formation of the committee, "I welcome the step of the University to appoint a committee to look into my grievances and am quite hopeful that the committee set up by VC will do justice," he said.

It is not the first time that the Chief Proctor Rakesh Singh is in the news for wrong reasons. Last year he was caught on camera while physically assaulting a Dalit Student with a lathi, quite unbecoming of a teacher.

The victim, Vivek Kumar, had said that when he went to him to raise the issue of the suspension of some students, he was beaten up brutally by Singh. "Rakesh Singh has always been against SC/ST/OBC students," alleged Vivek,

The high-powered committee consisting of five members will also look into the issue of illegal inmates in hostels.

The Mooknayak also spoke to Ajay Yadav “ Samrat”, the national vice-president of the Samajwadi party Chatra Morcha, he said “ If the committee investigates the matter in a fair manner, Abhishek Gupta will get Justice and in case the findings of the committee leads to injustice against the students, we will resume our demonstration.

He also urged the Vice-Chancellor to not take any action against the protesting students as they were demonstrating peacefully.

The University advised the students through social media to concentrate on their studies and not to be misguided by the unruly elements. The students found guilty of indiscipline will be subjected to FIR along with expulsion from the university. The post on X also informed that the students who were involved in closing of the entrance at the senate compound are being identified and the students will be expelled and FIR (First Information Report) lodged against the guilty.
