Sonam Wangchuk Calls for Peaceful March to Parliament on 20 July: "Messages from Comfy Couches Won't Help the 20 Students Who Died"

Wangchuk’s participation has linked the education crisis with broader concerns, including environmental protection in Ladakh and the need for stronger constitutional safeguards.
Sonam emphasised that Parliament is the rightful place where the voices of students must be heard and accountability must be demanded from those in power.

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a peaceful march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament on 20th July, the first day of the Monsoon Session. The march will be held in collaboration with education reform activist Sonam Wangchuk and in memory of the students who lost their lives due to repeated failures in India’s examination system.

On the 11th day of his indefinite hunger strike, Sonam Wangchuk appealed to citizens across the country to join the peaceful march. He emphasised that Parliament is the rightful place where the voices of students must be heard and accountability must be demanded from those in power.

“If you truly want me to stay alive, don’t just send messages from your homes. Come to Delhi and join me in a peaceful march to Parliament on 20th July. Together, we can ensure that our voices are heard where laws are made,” Wangchuk said in his video message.

The CJP-led protest at Jantar Mantar has entered its third week, drawing students, parents, and concerned citizens demanding systemic reforms in the education sector. The movement gained significant momentum after Sonam Wangchuk joined the indefinite hunger strike on 28th June.

Key demands include the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a thorough investigation into the NEET and other major exam paper leaks, justice for the families of students who died by suicide, and long-term measures to prevent future irregularities in competitive examinations.

The protests have featured creative actions such as the Diaper Donation Drive, Postcard campaign, Candle march, sustained sit-ins, and growing support from various sections of society. Wangchuk’s participation has linked the education crisis with broader concerns, including environmental protection in Ladakh and the need for stronger constitutional safeguards.

Organisers have repeatedly stressed that the march on 20th July will remain completely peaceful and democratic, aiming to appeal directly to Members of Parliament to take up these issues during the Monsoon Session and deliver lasting solutions.

Supporters are being urged to reach Delhi and stand united for educational justice and accountability.
