Udaipur, Rajasthan- The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) recently completed a three-day visit to Mohanlal Sukhadia University here. During this visit, a 6-member team assessed various aspects of the university, including its departments, campus, and facilities. The results of the grading are expected to be available within a week.
University spokesperson Dr. Kunjan Acharya shared that the NAAC team was chaired by Prof. Ramesh Chandra Mishra from Mahakoshal University, Jabalpur, and coordinated by Prof. Manoj Kumar Shastri from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. Other team members included Professor Pradipta Kumar Behera from Sambhalpur University, Orissa, Prof. AM Shah from Islamic University, Srinagar, Prof. Mohammad Altaf Khan from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, and Dr. Sukirti Ghoshal from Hindi University, West Bengal.
The team conducted an extensive evaluation during their three-day visit. They visited various parts of the university, including the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Law College, Science College, Commerce College, Faculty of Management Studies, Sports Complex, Administrative Building, Examination Branch, all hostels, cafeteria, departments, and laboratories from November 6th to 8th. They also evaluated the university's libraries.
Moreover, the NAAC team engaged in extensive discussions with students, parents, teachers, and alumni, seeking to verify the university's physical infrastructure and quality parameters. Valuable suggestions for further improvement were received during these sessions. It's important to note that these discussions were held with strict confidentiality, and no university administration personnel were present.
Under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Sunita Mishra, the university had been meticulously prepared and beautified in anticipation of this visit.
After an exit meeting on Wednesday, Vice Chancellor Professor Sunita Mishra expressed optimism about the university receiving a favorable grading from NAAC. The team also visited Kailashpuri, a village adopted by the university, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell played a significant role in providing feedback and supporting the investigation process.
This marks the third visit by NAAC to Sukhadia University, with previous assessments in 2003 and 2014 resulting in B+ and A grades, respectively. The university is now poised to potentially achieve a grade above 'A'. Such a high grade can lead to numerous benefits, including financial grants and a stronger position in the higher education sector.
The NAAC team commended the university's academic environment, educational resources, laboratories, research projects, and innovations. The grading is expected to be announced within the next week.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluation typically occurs every five years to assess and accredit higher education institutions in India. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the university visit was delayed by approximately three to four years.
The benefits of NAAC grading are significant. When a university receives a high grade, such as A++:
1. The obligation for official inspections to receive financial grants from government schemes ends, simplifying the funding process.
2. The grading is noted on students' mark sheets, which can positively impact their admissions and placement in the higher education sector.
3. The university's documentation becomes more comprehensive and accurate, reflecting its achievements and quality.
4. Achieving an 'A+' grade can pave the way for the university to be transformed into a Central University, which brings increased recognition and opportunities for the institution.
It's worth noting that Mohanlal Sukhadia University is currently well-positioned to meet the qualifications required for Central University status, further emphasizing the importance of receiving a favourable NAAC grading.
The NAAC team, after their visit to the university, expressed their appreciation for the academic environment and the arrangements in place. They commended the university for its high-quality educational facilities and physical resources, despite it being a state university. The team was particularly impressed with the laboratories, research projects, and innovations at the institution.
Typically, the grading is announced within a week of the NAAC visit, and it's expected that the NAAC grading for Mohanlal Sukhadia University will be disclosed within the next week. This positive feedback from the NAAC team suggests that the university may receive a favorable grading.
