Heartbreaking Tragedy: Dalit Farmer Takes His Life After Police Apathy Following Abduction and Assault of Minor Daughter

Uttar Pradesh— In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, a Dalit farmer's minor daughter was abducted and raped by a group of men in the village. The incident took place when she had gone home to fetch water for her father. The farmer, devastated by his daughter's traumatic experience, sought help from the local police station to report the crime. Shockingly, the authorities displayed a complete lack of empathy and failed to take any action. The family, already enduring unimaginable suffering, alleged that further atrocities were inflicted upon their daughter, but the police turned a blind eye to their pleas for justice.

Eventually, it was discovered that the girl had been left at her uncle's house the following day. The family claims that the relentless humiliation and pressure from the accused, coupled with the apathy of the police, pushed the farmer to the brink of despair, leading him to tragically take his own life. Following the farmer's untimely death, the police have filed a case against four suspects involved in the incident. In addition, the station officer has been suspended, and an investigation has been launched into the allegations of negligence and inaction.

The eldest son of the Dalit farmer, residing in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, shared the harrowing account of events. He recounted, "On May 9, 2023, my father (45) and my sister (14) were working in the fields. During that time, my father asked my sister to go home and fetch water. She went home, but she did not return by evening. My father assumed she must have been occupied with household chores. However, upon my father's return home, she was nowhere to be found. Consequently, my father initiated a search for her throughout the village, and I also rushed back from work. After an extensive search proved fruitless, we sought assistance from the police station."
