Khairtal-Tijara: In Rajasthan, a Dalit youth's wedding procession was disrupted in the Mundawar area of Khairthal-Tijara district, approximately 160 km from the capital, due to objections to horse riding.
The incident, reminiscent of a previous case in Gujarat, cast a shadow over the joyous occasion, prompting intervention from authorities to ensure the completion of the marriage ceremony.
The incident unfolded in Lamchapur village of Mundawar tehsil, where Rahul, the groom, was preparing for his wedding procession on the evening of February 24th.
However, influential individuals from the village intervened, preventing Rahul from mounting the mare designated for his ride. The ensuing turmoil prompted the involvement of Bhim Army workers and eventually the police, allowing Rahul to carry out the ritual of horse riding.
Moreover, as the procession approached a temple, the doors were locked, obstructing the scheduled rituals. Subsequently, police intervention was sought again, leading to the unlocking of the temple and the provision of security for the wedding procession.
The groom, Rahul, told The Mooknayak, "On the evening of February 24th, we were ready to go to the Kotputli area with the Baraat (wedding procession). During this time, some influential people from the village arrived. The wedding preparations were complete, and the procession was about to leave. As i was about to mount on the mare, I was stopped from doing so. There was a commotion at the spot for a long time. Our family members informed the Bhim Army members who called the police to the scene. After that, I could complete the rituals".
Tehsildar Madan Singh confirmed receiving a complaint regarding the Dalit youth's exclusion from riding the mare. In response, the administration, accompanied by law enforcement, facilitated Rahul's participation in the traditional rituals, ensuring the completion of the wedding procession.
The incident in Rajasthan bears resemblance to a similar occurrence in Gujarat's Mansa area, where a Dalit groom faced assault and caste-related abuse while riding a mare during his wedding procession. Prompt police action was taken in both cases to provide security and address the grievances of the affected parties.
Furthermore, in protest against the Gujarat incident, Dalit leader Kalpesh Parmar demonstrated by riding a mare to the SP office and submitting a memorandum, highlighting the need to address caste-related discrimination and ensure the dignity and rights of marginalized communities.
