Badaun- Amidst caste-based tensions in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, a shocking warning surfaced to behead a Dalit groom for riding a mare during his wedding procession. In response to the grievance lodged by the bride's family with the Chief Minister, a robust police presence from multiple stations descended upon the village.

On Sunday, under the protective vigilance of law enforcement, the groom was ceremoniously married atop a mare, symbolizing defiance against casteist intimidation. The triumphant celebration that ensued brought boundless joy to the Dalit community, yet looming concerns persist ahead of another Dalit daughter's wedding scheduled for March 6.

The incident unfolded against the backdrop of two Dalit weddings in the Chandesi village in Sahasvan area , scheduled for March 3 and March 6, 2024, respectively. On Sunday, wedding ceremony of one of the bride Khushboo Valmiki was held peacefully amid police security.

According to reports, the families of the brides faced intimidation and threats from casteist individuals, who warned against the inclusion of traditional elements like music bands and processional carts during the weddings. Shockingly, there were even threats of violence, including the chilling warning to behead the groom if the procession proceeded as planned.

The escalating tensions prompted the intervention of the police administration, which swiftly responded to the situation. After mediation talks with both parties involved, the police assured security arrangements for the marriage processions. Senior police officers, along with a full police force, were deployed to the village to ensure the safety of the wedding events.

Ahead of the weddings, police took preemptive measures to address the threats. Stringent action was taken against those responsible, with police reportedly locking up the perpetrators in a room and delivering legal warnings. The authorities made it clear that any attempt to disrupt the weddings would result in severe consequences, including hefty fines and legal action.

Reflecting on the events, Mahesh, a relative of one of the brides, expressed gratitude for the police protection, highlighting the importance of ensuring the safety of Dalit communities during significant family events. Similarly, Veeresh Kumar, the brother of another bride, emphasized the need for security amid the ongoing tensions in the village.
