Muzaffarpur, Bihar- In a shocking incident that has brought shame to humanity, a Dalit laborer in Muzaffarpur was subjected to a brutal assault by a group of men. Not only was the worker beaten mercilessly, but the assailants also spat on him and, in a heinous act of humiliation, urinated on his body.

The victim has filed a formal complaint against three individuals, following which the police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused. The incident occurred in a village within the Bochahan police station limits.

Police stated that investigations have, prima facie, confirmed the assault and use of casteist slurs, but no evidence has yet been found to support claims of spitting or urinating on the victim.

“We have received a case involving Rinku Manjhi, a daily wage laborer who worked at the farm of Ramesh Patel. The Bochaha police station was informed of the incident on October 8, though it occurred on October 4. The case has been registered under number 291/24, dated 08-10-24. An investigation is underway, and initial findings indicate that Ramesh Patel used caste-based slurs against the victim and physically assaulted him. Further inquiries are ongoing,” said Vidya Sagar, Superintendent of Police for rural Muzaffarpur, while addressing journalists on Wednesday.

According to the complaint, the laborer was returning home on his bicycle when the attackers, identified as Ramesh Patel, Arun Patel, and Gaurav Patel, intercepted him. They assaulted him without provocation, spat on his face, and threw him to the ground, after which Gaurav Patel reportedly urinated on his body.

The reason for the attack was the victim's request for two days of unpaid wages. He had recently worked at a poultry farm set up by the accused. With the festive season of Durga Puja approaching, the laborer had approached them to claim his due wages, only to be met with violence.

Since filing the complaint, the victim has been receiving death threats and is now too frightened to return home. Despite registering the case, the police have yet to make any arrests. However, police action is underway, with raids being conducted to apprehend the accused.

"The case has been registered based on the victim's complaint, and we are conducting raids to arrest the accused," said Rakesh Kumar Yadav, the officer-in-charge of the Bochahan police station.
