Police hesitancy to lodge FIR

In stark contrast to the victim of the Air India incident, who received significant media attention and support, Lalmati, the Dalit woman, faced much hardships in getting her case registered at the local police station. On the direction of the commission, her case was finally registered at Dewa police station in the city. The case involves seven accused, including an unknown individual.

Accused not arrested

When The Mooknayak contacted the Dewa Police Station SHO Pankaj Kumar Singh, he confirmed that the case has been registered and an investigation is underway at the level of Circle Officer. The Mooknayak attempted to reach the Circle Officer for comment, but was unsuccessful. The contrast with the Air India incident is further highlighted by the fact that, in this case, the accused have yet to be arrested, whereas in the Air India incident, not only was the accused passenger dismissed from his multinational company, but he was also arrested within days of the incident coming to light."
