New Delhi: The tragic case of a woman's death has surfaced following a scolding from her supervisor and contractor at a Garments Company located in Greater Noida Industrial Sector Site-5, Uttar Pradesh. After returning home, Rajmati (42), a worker at Rajlakshmi Garments, experienced a sudden deterioration in her health and was rushed to the hospital, where she later passed away. The news of her demise prompted fellow employees to protest, vandalizing the company premises and demanding compensation for the bereaved family.

Originally from Iqbalpur, Mau, Rajmati resided in Kasana with her husband Subhash and two children. She had been working at Rajlakshmi for an extended period and, on a regular Tuesday, found herself in a distressing situation. Colleagues revealed that the assigned work was left incomplete, leading to a confrontation with the contractor and supervisor. In response, they not only scolded her but also confiscated her punching card. Subsequently, she was instructed to take a week's leave, a decision that profoundly affected her.

Sent home due to ill health, Rajmati's condition worsened, prompting her admission to a private hospital in Kasna on Sunday night. Tragically, she passed away around 4 am on the following Wednesday, with doctors attributing her death to a possible heart attack.

The news triggered a wave of outrage among employees, who began protesting around 10 in the morning. Alleging harassment by the supervisor and contractor, they demanded compensation for Rajmati's family. A clash ensued with company officials, leading to the vandalism of the premises. Amidst the chaos, approximately 30 women workers participating in the protest fell unconscious. Names such as Babli, Kamlesh, Rajni, Prem Lata, Priya, Neetu, Karishma, Rajni, Monica, Beena, Chandni, Meenu, and others were admitted to hospitals. Four of them were placed in the ICU, while the rest were discharged after receiving first aid.

Allegations of Workplace Harassment

According to Amar Ujala's report, Rajmati's brother-in-law, Jitendra Kumar, alleged that the supervisor and contractor had been subjecting her to prolonged harassment by assigning excessive work. Their behavior turned hostile when the assigned tasks were not completed, causing Rajmati significant stress. Over time, her distress intensified, leading to her admission to a private hospital, where she succumbed to her health issues.

Vishal Srivastava, HR head of Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills Private Limited, stated that the female worker died due to health issues at home. He dismissed any connection between the incident and the actions of the supervisor and contractor, attributing the chaos to employee rumours. He assured that the company would extend every possible assistance to the bereaved family.

Ashok Kumar, ADCP Greater Noida, reported that information suggested the woman died due to a heart attack. The family members have since taken her body to their village.
