Amaravati — Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu has announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 for women who give birth to a third child, following Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP President Chandrababu Naidu’s push for incentives to encourage larger families.

The MP further stated that if the newborn is a boy, the mother will also receive a cow. He clarified that the cash incentive would come from his own salary.

Appala Naidu’s announcement has gone viral on social media, with TDP leaders and party workers actively sharing it. Party members claim that women have welcomed the initiative, calling it a revolutionary step. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has also praised the MP for his decision.

The announcement was made during an event held on International Women’s Day at Rajiv Sports Compound in Vizianagaram.

Earlier, during a visit to Delhi, Chandrababu Naidu had raised concerns over South India’s declining population, stating that the ageing demographic could pose challenges, while states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have a younger workforce. He stressed the importance of managing demographic changes rather than controlling population growth.

"I used to advocate family planning. Now I am changing my views and promoting population growth. India has the biggest advantage in the demographic dividend. If we manage it well, India and Indians will be great. The global community is relying on us for services," he said.

On Saturday, marking International Women’s Day, the Chief Minister also announced that maternity leave would now be granted to all women employees during childbirth, irrespective of the number of children they have.

"Previously, maternity leave was limited to two children. Now, we are extending it to cover all children, regardless of the number. This move aims to encourage family growth, balance the population, and support women in managing their careers and families," he posted on X.
