Lucknow- A retired IPS officer and activist has submitted a complaint to the Director-General of Police (DGP) and Director-General of Prisons regarding a disturbing incident in Lucknow District Jail, Uttar Pradesh. He alleged on January 7, an incarcerated police officer in the district jail was reportedly subjected to brutal beatings, leading to a demand for a thorough investigation and appropriate action.
In the complaint, Azad Adhikar Sena National President, Amitabh Thakur, has urged an inquiry into the alleged assault on a policeman named Parv Kumar Singh, who is incarcerated in connection with a custodial death case in Jaunpur. The case had previously been investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Thakur received information from reliable sources stating that Singh was subjected to a severe beating by prison personnel, including a female officer, at a location within the jail referred to as "Shaitaan Chowki." Disturbingly, instead of receiving medical treatment, Singh was reportedly confined to a high-security cell.
Drawing attention to the need for transparency, Thakur called for an investigation into the matter based on CCTV footage and a medical examination of the detainee. He insisted on the truth being established and demanded the initiation of an FIR (First Information Report) along with the suspension of the culpable jail personnel.
The incident involves Parv Kumar Singh, who had been placed in jail in connection with the death in police custody in Jaunpur. The CBI had previously probed this case on the orders of the Allahabad High Court. Singh was allegedly called to a specific area within Lucknow Jail, where he was subjected to a brutal beating with sticks. Despite the severity of the assault, he was allegedly denied medical treatment and instead confined to a high-security cell.
Amitabh Thakur highlighted that during his detention in Lucknow Jail, he had witnessed and experienced such brutal beatings on multiple occasions. He emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth through an investigation supported by CCTV evidence and a medical examination of the victim. Thakur insisted on the filing of an FIR and the suspension of the responsible jail personnel.
