Biggest medical institute in Lucknow- Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) is in news again for keeping the backlog posts meant for SC/ST vacant on the pretext of “Not found Suitable”.
Speaking to The Mooknayak Chintamani, Retd. IAS and the General Secretary of the Bahujan Bharat said that we have demanded that the the backlog posts of Assitant Professor which have not been filled should be filled immediately. Out of 65 they have made recruitment only on 22 seats, 11 each of SC/ST and OBC.
Last year notification was issued for 65 posts, out of which 42 were for SC and 23 for OBC. The recruitment process was carried on from 14th November 22 to 12th January 2023 but recruitment was done only on 11 posts of Scheduled Castes and 11 posts of Other Backward Castes. The remaining 43 posts which comprised 31 posts of Scheduled Castes and 12 from Other backward Castes were not filled on the basis of “not found suitable.
Speaking to local media R.K Dheeman, Director at the institute said “ The allegation of discrimination is wrong as we are issuing a fresh notification for the remaining vacancies and the recruitment will be completed soon.”
Responding to the statement of the Director of the institute, Chintamani, the General Secretary of Bahujan Bharat said “The remaining posts should be filled by recruiting SC/ST/OBC candidates only.”
Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 1983 at Lucknow under the State Legislature Act in Lucknow. The institute provides training to medical and non-medical professionals.
Last year a Parliamentary Panel had submitted a report in the Parliament in which allegations were made that there was widespread bias against SC/ST doctors AT AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), New Delhi. The panel had noted that SC/ST candidates were not inducted despite having qualification. Junior resident SC/ST doctors who were working there were not regularised etc.
