Pratikshit Singh

Prayagraj- The UP police have filed a chargesheet against Allahabad University Assistant Professor, Dr. Vikram Kumar, for profanity against religion. The Police have made the teacher of modern and medieval history an accused in the case.

It is worth noting that Dr. Vikram Harijan hails from the Dalit community and has endured the hardships of the caste system since his childhood. He has been a vocal critic of caste discrimination and untouchability, addressing these issues through his articles on several occasions.

The police registered a case against Kumar after the district coordinator of Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Prayagraj filed a complaint against him under sections 153 A and 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66 of the IT Act in the Colonelganj police station of the area. The screenshot of the post was also shared with the police.

Professor pays a heavy price for the use of social media

Assistant Professor Vikram had made some objectionable comments in October against Lord Krishna and Lord Ram on his X account (formerly Twitter). Various Hindu organizations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, etc., had taken umbrage over the issue. Professor Vikram had gone to the High Court to quash the FIR against him; he received interim relief on this issue. But now the professor faces arrest as the police have filed a chargesheet against him.

The chargesheet was filed within 60 days. According to the FIR filed at the Colonelganj Police station of Prayagraj, Dr. Vikram Kumar had made objectionable comments against Hindu deities and therefore had hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community. The Police had lodged an FIR against Kumar on these grounds. The Assistant Professor had admitted to the posts to the police but mentioned that he did not intend to offend anyone.

Right-wing organizations demand arrest

The right-wing organizations have been demanding the arrest of Professor Vikram Kumar over the posts. They are demanding the immediate arrest of Kumar for hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community. The Prayag unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad had warned of protests if the accused Professor is not arrested. Shubham, the district coordinator of VHP, had said that such derogatory comments against Hindu deities in the name of freedom of expression will not be tolerated, and the teacher should be arrested immediately."
