AQI Soars to Near-Critical 690, Prompts Health Warnings

Lahore, Pakistan - Lahore has reached a new milestone, becoming the world's most polluted city on Sunday, according to data from global monitoring sites reported by ARY News. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) soared to a near-critical 690, placing it at the top of the unenviable list.

This alarming level of pollution has prompted health authorities to issue urgent warnings for residents. The hazardous air quality is causing a surge in respiratory problems, including coughs, viral flu, and sore throats. Experts advise residents to take precautions such as wearing masks and goggles, minimizing unnecessary outdoor activities, and using air purifiers indoors.

The AQI report, as per ARY News, recommends that Lahore residents avoid outdoor exercise, keep windows closed to prevent polluted air from entering, wear masks when outside, and use air purifiers for cleaner indoor air.

Lahore's pollution crisis is attributed to several factors, including the burning of crop remnants, factory emissions, and the burning of coal, garbage, oil, or tires. These pollutants are exacerbated by the onset of winter, which leads to denser air and a trapping of harmful particles closer to the ground.

This situation raises concerns about the long-term health implications for the city's residents.
