Brampton, Canada - The Indian High Commission in Canada condemned a "violent disruption" at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario, on Sunday. The incident occurred outside a consular camp organized by the High Commission in collaboration with the temple.
According to the High Commission, anti-India elements orchestrated the disruption, resulting in clashes. The High Commission expressed deep disappointment over the incident and highlighted similar disruptions at consular camps in Vancouver and Surrey on Saturday and Sunday.
"It is deeply disappointing to see such disruptions being allowed at routine consular work being organised by our consulate with the fullest cooperation of the local co-organizers," the statement read. The High Commission also expressed concern for the safety of applicants, including Indian nationals, attending the camps.
Despite disruptions, the High Commission issued over 1,000 life certificates to Indian and Canadian applicants.
The Hindu Canadian Foundation alleges that Khalistani supporters attacked women and children at the temple. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the organization claims, "Hindu Sabha Temple is under attack by #KhalistaniTerrorists #khalistan. Kids, Women and Men are being attacked. This is all happening under the support of Khalistaani politician sympathizers."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the violence, stating, "The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely." Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre echoed this sentiment, calling the violence "completely unacceptable."
Member of Parliament Chandra Arya described the incident as a "dangerous escalation" and stated that a "red line has been crossed" by Khalistani extremists. Toronto MP Kevin Vuong expressed concerns about Canada becoming a "safe harbor for radicals" and criticized the country's leaders for failing to protect Hindus, Christians, and Jewish Canadians from extremist violence.
