New Delhi - The Indian government strongly condemned the violent attacks at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Canada, on Sunday, where an Indian consular camp was also targeted. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, issued a statement expressing outrage at the acts of violence perpetrated by "extremists and separatists."
The MEA urged the Canadian government to ensure the protection of all places of worship from such attacks and called for the prosecution of those responsible. The statement emphasized India's deep concern for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation in Canada, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to denounce the attack. "The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable," Trudeau stated, emphasizing the right of every Canadian to practice their faith freely and safely. He also expressed gratitude to the Peel Regional Police for their swift response.
Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre echoed these sentiments, calling the violence "completely unacceptable," while Member of Parliament Chandra Arya labeled it a "dangerous escalation" and stated that a "red line has been crossed" by Khalistani extremists.
Toronto MP Kevin Vuong expressed concerns about Canada becoming a "safe harbor for radicals," criticizing the country's leadership for failing to protect Hindus, Christians, and Jewish Canadians from extremist violence.
Despite the attacks, the MEA affirmed that the outreach of its consular officers in providing services to Indians and Canadian citizens will not be deterred by intimidation, harassment, or violence.
