Govt receives strong response from taxpayers, 5 crore ITRs filed till July 26

With the filing deadline set for July 31, the department has urged those who have yet to file their returns to do so promptly to avoid the last-minute rush.

New Delhi- The Income Tax Department of India announced on Friday that it has surpassed 5 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the assessment year 2024-25 as of July 26. This achievement comes a day earlier than last year, reflecting a strong response from taxpayers.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the department expressed its appreciation for the efforts of taxpayers and tax professionals. “We are grateful to taxpayers and tax professionals for helping us reach the milestone of 5 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for AY 2024-25 by July 26, compared to July 27 last year,” the Income Tax India post read.

With the filing deadline set for July 31, the department has urged those who have yet to file their returns to do so promptly to avoid the last-minute rush. “We encourage everyone who has not yet filed their ITR for AY 2024-25 to do so as soon as possible to prevent congestion closer to the deadline,” the statement advised.

The department has been proactively reminding the public of their tax obligations through various channels. A separate post on X reinforced the upcoming deadline: “Attention Taxpayers! Remember to file your ITR if you haven’t done so yet. The due date to file ITR for AY 2024-25 is July 31, 2024.”
