Delhi's Water Crisis Deepens as Blame Game Heats Up

AAP and BJP spar over water shortage; LG accused of withholding supply

New Delhi- As the residents of Delhi continue to face the water crisis, the political blame game is getting louder amid the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP in opposition.

Delhi Cabinet Ministers Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, and Imran Hussain have recently sent a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to intervene and help in obtaining 100 million gallons of water per day from Haryana.

During a press conference in Delhi, the AAP ministers also rejected the statement of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, accusing him of releasing the required amount of water to the national capital. The ministers requested that Saxena join them for a visit to the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant to check the facts.

The Aam Aadmi Party also plans to organize a candlelight march later in the day to support Delhi Water Minister Aatishi's hunger strike at the site of her strike. This comes as the Delhi government has been accused of not taking sufficient measures to address the water shortage and instead, relying on political gains.

In contrast, the BJP has criticized the AAP for organizing a press conference and said that water does not come from the Yamuna River in Delhi but through canals. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva claimed that the Wazirabad water treatment plant has 95% silt, which is obstructing the flow of water. He also questioned why the Delhi government has not approached the AAP-run Punjab government for additional water to meet the requirement during the current water shortage.
