Banswara- A wave of excitement swept through Government Higher Secondary School, Amarthun, in Banswara district after the post of Senior Teacher (Mathematics), which had remained vacant for more than a decade, was finally filled.

The school witnessed an emotional and celebratory atmosphere when Rajesh Tirgar, a resident of Chanduji Ka Gadha, arrived at the school with his family to take charge as the newly appointed Senior Teacher of Mathematics.

As soon as students learned that a new mathematics teacher had joined the school, parents, members of the School Management Committee (SMC), School Development and Management Committee (SDMC), Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), student parliament, village representatives and other community members began gathering at the school to welcome Tirgar.

For the newly appointed teacher's parents, the occasion was particularly emotional. They expressed happiness at witnessing their son's first day in government service and appreciated the Rajasthan government's decision to fill vacant posts.

Rajendra Kumar Charpota, administrator of Amarthun Gram Panchayat, said that several educational issues in the school had been brought to the attention of the Chief Minister, Education Minister and officials of the Education Department. These included vacancies in the Science and Agriculture Science streams, among other issues.

Charpota said efforts were also underway to fill five other vacant positions at the school, including Lecturer (Agriculture Science), Accountant, Assistant Accountant, Level-I Teacher and Vice-Principal.

He added that efforts were being made to secure approval for the construction of 10 new classrooms, a girls' hostel and additional posts based on enrolment growth under the staffing pattern.

School principal Arun Vyas facilitated the offline joining process and welcomed the guests and community members present on the occasion.

For Amarthun school, the appointment marks more than just the filling of a government post, it brings a long-awaited mathematics teacher to students after more than a decade and has renewed hopes among parents and villagers for further improvements in the school's staffing and infrastructure.

The celebration at Amarthun comes amid a growing wave of protests by students and villagers in rural parts of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, where teacher shortages and inadequate school facilities have increasingly pushed children onto the streets. In Maharashtra, students in Nagpur protested after finding that just three teachers were handling 11 classes, while a recent campaign in Beed has highlighted the large number of single-teacher schools in the state.

In Uttar Pradesh, more than 200 girls of a government residential school in Lucknow recently took to the road over teacher shortages and other basic problems, while students in Azamgarh also protested over the absence of a Chemistry teacher.

Rajasthan too has seen similar protests, including students in Jalore demanding teachers for Classes 1–3 and protests at other government schools over staff shortages. Against this backdrop, the filling of a mathematics teacher's post that had remained vacant at Amarthun for more than a decade has become a significant moment for the local school community.
